Tomás Kappes Reveco

Research Scientist

Tomás is part of Constructive’s genome synthesis team, spearheading our phage engineering projects. His scientific journey began in Chile, where he delved into Bioengineering and Microbiology and dedicated his efforts to antimicrobial resistance research, with a specific emphasis on ESKAPE pathogens. Later, Tomás joined CCB, a biotech startup, directing project focused on biopharmaceutical formulations for vaccine development. Moving to pursue a PhD at the University of Cambridge, his research centred on phage receptor engineering and host range enhancement.  An opportunity to work alongside the Chin Lab assessing the phage resistance of synthetic E. coli strains during his time at Cambridge further ignited his enthusiasm for genome synthesis. Beyond the lab, Tomás loves outdoor sports, especially trekking, mountaineering, and rowing. And when it's time to unwind, he’s always up for a game of Dungeons and Dragons.
